I made classic monkey bread a few months ago for the first time. Mmmm Why did I wait so long? So back in December when I was at the Rhodes blogger night out and they made Hot CHOCOLATE monkey bread for us I was in HEAVEN! To die for, seriously! I made them for my family right away! And while I’ll make a few changes the next time I try this it is definitely a repeat for us!
This is STUFFED monkey bread, so pick your favorite chocolate for the filling. I used dark chocolate chips, but if you like milk or semi sweet go for it. Next time I’d REALLY like top try a dove bar chopped up.
Stuffed Hot Chocolate Monkey Bread
dough (I used Texas sized Rhodes rolls, but their dinner sized rolls works too, or your favorite homemade dough)
1 1/2 C chocolate (chips or chopped)
1/2 C hot chocolate mix
1/2 C toffee bits
1/2 C butter melted
1/2 C brown sugar
First portion your dough, I cut the Texas size dough into 3, I’d cut a dinner roll into 2… you get the idea
Flatten your dough a bit, fill with 1 tsp of chocolate and wrap it up, pressing it closed. Next time I’d wet the edges a bit because they opened up on me.
Roll your stuffed dough ball in the hot chocolate mixture
Take your pan (sprayed with pam) and cover it with 1/2 the toffee bits and a sprinkling of hot chocolate mixture (I used a bread pan because it was all I had, but we enjoyed it so much I ordered a bundt pan for next time)
place your dough balls in the pan. Mix the butter and brown sugar, microwave to warm it a bit and pour it over your rolls (I got Lego boy to help drizzle in between layers a bit…)
Cover with the rest of the toffee and more of the hot chocolate mixture and let them rise!
you can see as mine rose that they started opening up. I pinched them closed ,but I can see that sealing them next time will help a lot!
Bake in your oven at 350 degrees for 35 mins (mine too longer because of my loaf pan, the bundt pan is going to work SO much better!). Cover with foil for the last 10 mins so they don’t over brown. Invert on a plate and serve!
They were SUPER rich, and delicious. I let the kids each have 2 and that was probably too much! I think this will go over well as a desert for a family party, let it cool a bit and slice it… Maybe with some fresh whipped cream!

OMG…these look so incredibly delish. I’ll have to try them!
They are SO good, almost TOO much for this chocolate lover and I didn’t think that was possible!
I just gained 10 lbs looking at these, they look soooo yummy!
RIGHT! I think I gain 10 lbs every time I look at the pictures, and that’s a lot when I was editing the pictures!
Um, YUM!! Hot chocolate and monkey bread together?! I want some for sure!! Thanks Ashlee. XO
They are SO good! Next time I’m going to let them rise a bit more for a bit more bread-iness!
Ya, this looks so awesome! When Lent is over, I gave up chocolate (crazy, I know), I’m totally trying this!! I’m also gonna pin it right now! New Fan From Wednesday Wowzers.
Amazing! I don’t think I could give up chocolate! But way to go!

Oh I agree, anything stuffed with chocolate, my other favorite is my chocolate stuffed croissant!
Mmmm…those look so delicious!
They really really are. Since I posted them I’ve been CRAVING them myself… Good thing I keep forgetting to thaw the dough…
Oh wow, this looks SO tempting! I was drawn to your link at I heart Naptime…. What a fun take on an old favorite. My mother in law always makes monkey bread when we are together, will have to take this recipe and try a new version. Would love for you to come over to my Tuesday Link party and share something delicious! http://nap-timecreations.blogspot.com
Next I’m going to try cheesecake monkey bread… Mmmmm
