Ever since I made my sprinkles cake I’ve been DYING to try non-perils (the small round ones).
When Computer boy decided on a pool party I decided to go with blue waves for decorating and it translated easily over to the cake!
This was a quick and easy cake to make. I loved the way it ended up looking! And even more important Computer Boy loved it.
For the top teir I decied all white non-perils would be PERFECT! If it was an ocean party I’d play it off as foam! I love love LOVE the way it looks. I want to do an entire multi teir cake in non-perils! How AWESOME would that look?
for the bottom teir I covered it with white fondant, then wrapped it in a slightly blue-ish fondant and hand cut waves. Added more blue – more waves, more blue – more waves and finally more blue – more waves. It made the cake wider at the bottom, not straight up and down on the sides, but I’m digg’n it.
No rhyme or reason to the waves, but I like the craziness of how it all turned out. It ended up matching the party and the labels great!
AND it tasted great, can’t get much better than that, right?

I love, love, love this cake!! If you don’t mind, I have two questions. My question mark (qm) is broken, so they will be written as statements. 🙂
How did you stick the non-perils to get them so solid(qm). I am assuming buttercream, but I don’t know that I could get it so evenly covered.
When you did the waves, did you start from the bottom with each progressive color so that the bottom wave was actually five layers of fondant(qm). I’m guessing that you did because each layer is so even.
Thanks for sharing! This is getting pinned right now …

nope, fondant. I fondant covered the cake, steamed it with my steamer so it got a bit tacky then spread the non perils on with my hand!
for the bottom layer I covered it with all white, then added the lt blue around (bottom to top) then cut the waves, etc.. doing the same with each color. You could keep it more even by just cutting the waves you want to see, but I liked the look of it getting thicker and fatter.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I have only been covering cakes with fondant for that last year or so and obviously have a lot left to learn!
Ashlee
I learn something from EVERY cake I make! I considered doing in on buttercream, that’s how I do my rainbow sprinkles cake, but the non-peril are so small I didn’t think it would work as well as this way. If you don’t have a steamer you can also paint the fondant with water ( but not too much)
