Most people probably start a rounded crochet project in a chain, like ch2, 11 sc in the 2nd ch. It’s great, but it tends to leave a big hole, or gap in the center. But if you like your center TIGHT you’ll need to use a Magic ring! Then there will be no hole or gap in the center like this.
materials:
Any yarn
Any hook
abbreviation:
YO (yarn over)
ch (chain)
sl st (slip stitch)
sc (single crochet)
1. Wrap the yarn around your finger once or twice (I’ve always preferred twice, but it’s hard to pull tight later). Front to back clockwise.
2. Stick the hook into the circle and YO and pull it back through
3. Ch once (or more for a larger stitch)
4. Sc around (or any other stitch you are using)
5. Now pull the short end, until you close the circle up tight!
6. Sl st to the first sc and your first row is done!

Thanks so much!!! I appreciate that! I’m sorry your scared of snakes, I feel the same way about spiders, but grew up with a pet snake so they don’t bother me. Although I wouldn’t want to meet one in the wild…
I was roaming the web at 5am looking for baby booties to make for a friend’s new baby and happened across your page (through Crochet Pattern Central) when I came across your MAGIC RING. This is so awesome! I have yet to try it, but I love to make hats of all sorts and can’t wait to incorporate that into the beginning round. No holes give it a more finished look…otherwise it looks like something is missing, and no more cold spot in the winter. lol Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!!!!

It is such an easy start and makes such a difference! Let me know how it goes!

thanks so much! I’m writing up a bobble version right now, with different sizes! I’m one last pattern away from posting them!
I don’t see any instructions here, just comments…
that’s so weird, I’ve had a few people mention they couldn’t see various posts over the last month. Can you tell me what your viewing on (pc, tablet, phone) and browser (chrome, firefox, ie) so I can see if i can narrow down what the problem is (since almost everyone can see every post)
