Getting Swimsuit Ready

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Slimfast, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #14daystoslim

My baby is 2 1/2 years old.  I can’t get away with saying “it’s baby weight” anymore.  In fact LAST summer I probably couldn’t get away with it. But I finally weaned my baby last fall.  When I wean my babies usually a huge chunk of the weight falls off (But I’m all about women finding confidence in your body no matter what the size)

The same thing happened this time around (By the end of the 2 years of nursing I was DONE and ready for my body back).  BUT after 5 babies, and being 35, I’ve been holding on to more than I wanted to this time around.  In fact I held on to a little extra weight with each baby.  Times that by 5 and a “little” extra weight is more than just a little.

This time around I lost a lot then hit a plateau. It’s just not coming off as easily as it did when I was younger. Last week was my extended Family reunion/vacation in the Outer Banks.  That meant a swimsuit ALL WEEK!

So a few weeks before my big vacation I decided to try something I don’t normally do.  I decided to try the Slimfast 14-Day Slimdown. GAH!  I knew it wouldn’t completely change my body, but would help lose just a little bit of the final weight so I’d feel more confident in my swimsuit!  In fact I’ll be spending all summer at Lagoon so I want it to come off and stay off.

This is from LAST summer (still breastfeeding and holding onto most of my chub).  Usually I dress knowing my body better, but at Lagoon I don’t worry about it, just wear clothing over my swimsuit for comfort, so clearly not the most flattering – the drowned rat look rarely is.

Anyway this picture was like… WOW. I do NOT want to look like THIS at Lagoon this summer.  So time for a change, but an easy one, I am crazy busy after all.

I was honestly surprised at how satisfied I felt afterwards, I thought I’d for sure be hungry but it really was a meal replacement and I didn’t get hungry at all! In fact I loved how easy it was, take one with me while I dropped off the kiddo’s in the morning, etc… I will def be sticking with this as a great breakfast option!

They have protein shakes and bars as part of the 14 Day Slimdown.  And you can lose up to 6 pounds in the first 2 weeks if you include the following as part of your 14 days:

  • Swap two meals daily with a Slimfast® protein shake or meal bar (I did breakfast and lunch)
  • The third meal must be 500 calories (I don’t count calories, but I just at a smaller portion of dinner)
  • Enjoy three 100-calorie snacks or pieces of fruit per day (I didn’t really need a snack during the day)
  • Don’t exceed 1200 calories per day
  • Do 30 minutes of light to medium exercise daily and drink plenty of water (I really put forth an effort in the water department)

So while I don’t own a scale so I’m not sure if I actually lost the full 6 lbs or not, but I was happy I tried it.  I spent all week in my swimsuit without stressing or covering up (I even got tan lines to prove it!).  Now to face the rest of the summer!

Happy Mothers Day from Alex Boye

Two weeks ago I was at SNAP conference here in SLC. The opening night “speaker” was Alex Boye. Now all I knew about his was his cover of Let It Go from YouTube, so I thought, this will be fun!

It opened with his cover of “Royals” on the video screen (which I loved) and then HE came in and started singing! His energy was amazing, and in between songs while he played to the audience and ran around the whole room (hamming it up for peoples phones and everything) he shared a little bit of his story and why he was singing/speaking at a conference for women bloggers.

(thanks Aimee for this video)

He spoke of a time when his singing career wasn’t able to support his growing family so he took a 9-5 soul killing job. What a wonderful father, so many selfish people of our generation think they deserve to continue to focus on themselves at the expense of their family… ANYWAY, he had put a video on YouTube before the soul sucking job but it hadn’t done very well at all.

One day his wife called him at work and told him to check out his video on YouTube, it had gone from a handful of views to 50,000+ almost overnight? What was going on? He checked out his analytics to find that 5 “mom” bloggers had shared his video and started the snowball effect he was seeing.

From that point on he’s been able to support his family with his music career (a hard business for sure). So he was at SNAP telling us to not give up, that if we thought about quitting to know that we were effecting people more than we could know and to keep it up even when we got negative comments and felt like quitting (and he complimented my hair, awesome).

After his performance was over he kindly stayed after to shake hands and take pictures. Some of the outgoing girls I’m friends with (Jordan and Pam) suggested that he should do a video including us bloggers sometime. Well he took that idea and RAN with it!

(thanks Jill for the picture)

Last week we got the email to join him for recording and filming the video (all in one crazy day with awesome choreography from Kaylynn) and this week the video came out. So in honor of moms, who are all amazing and dedicated to kidnapped Girls from Nigeria West Africa, Here is Katy Perry’s “Roar” with Alex Boye and a ton of us Mom Bloggers!

Building self confidence – Makeup tips

So a few months ago I talked about building self confidence since falling into a lull in my life.  So I made the goal to get dressed every day, instead of hanging out in my PJ’s and while I still have PJ day’s (today) it has totally helped get me get out of my rut.  So next up was to add makeup back into my routine.

I love make up, and I have always had it around for like date night.  BUT I hadn’t bought myself something new or exciting in awhile, it was boring and I was still feeling BLAH.  Remember how I mentioned I got called a MAN 3 times in one month?  I was feeling pretty UN pretty and non feminine so wearing make up changes all that.  You just can’t put on make up and not feel more feminine and confident!  It’s all about bringing out your natural beauty!  SO I invested in some new make up and it’s amazing what a difference it makes.  Just 15 mins of make up and I just feel better!

Family photography – smash cake session

YAY! my family pictures for the year are finally here.  I love doing something different every year.  So this year I wanted a fun family activity and lots of color.  So I gave the kids a choice, colored chalk or a family cake smash!!!  I’m lucky my amazing sister/photographer, Chelsea Peterson Photography, was so willing to go along with yet another crazy idea.

We started with a few “clean” shots before getting into the mess.  I spent a few weeks searching our area for the perfect backdrop.  We originally wanted a white wall but in the end I decided I wanted warmer tones and so when I found this beige brick wall I fell in love.

Building Self Confidence – Clothes

I’ve mentioned before that the last year was a little rough for me.  I have been pregnant or nursing for almost 12 year straight, and having that portion of my life over has been rough.  I kind of simply quit, quit taking care of myself, because what was the point? I’m at that stage now where I spend a lot of my day in the car, dropping my kids of, picking them up, taking them to activities, waiting in the car.  And when I’m not in the car I’m at home, laundry, dinner, dishes, cleaning (blogging).

I let my love of clothes, fashion and make up go and wore my pj’s almost every day.  I just didn’t bothering to get ready for the day, it kind of felt like “what’s the point”.  Seriously because there wasn’t anything to bother getting ready FOR!  BUT when I got called a MAN 3 times in one month I realized something had to change (YES you read that right, a MAN, once I got called a DAD). My self confidence was at an all time low!
