Hi, it’s Natalie from Katarina’s Paperie stopping by today.  Can you believe we just celebrated Memorial Day?  It seemed so early this year - I feel like I’m just recovering from Easter.

One of my favorite parts about summer is the patriotic celebrations.  I love all of the red, white and blue that seems to surface between the months of June and August.  From beautiful patriotic desserts to festive Fourth of July decorations, it’s such a happy time to celebrate how proud I am to be an American.

So, when thinking about the perfect printable to share with you this month, I created one that was especially patriotic and perfect for all of your upcoming celebrations, picnics and fireworks displays – Free Printable Fourth of July Party Flags.  What I love about party flags is that they are a great way to add some color to even the smallest get together.

Although my favorite use is to add them to paper straws, there are many fun ways to use these patriotic party flags at your celebration.   You could attach these Free Printable Fourth of July Party Flags to toothpicks for picnic appetizers, cupcake toppers for your holiday desserts or even pencil flags for the kids’ favors.

Assembling your party flags to paper straws is so simple too.  Simply print out the free printable patriotic party flags on medium cardstock.  Cut out the straw flags with scissors or a paper cutter.  Add a small piece of double sided tape or glue dot onto the back.  Attach onto your paper straw.  Seal the end with another small piece of tape or glue dot.  Check out our shop’s blog for even more detailed assembly directions.

Happy Mothers Day from Alex Boye

Two weeks ago I was at SNAP conference here in SLC. The opening night “speaker” was Alex Boye. Now all I knew about his was his cover of Let It Go from YouTube, so I thought, this will be fun!

alex-boye-singing alex-boye

It opened with his cover of “Royals” on the video screen (which I loved) and then HE came in and started singing! His energy was amazing, and in between songs while he played to the audience and ran around the whole room (hamming it up for peoples phones and everything) he shared a little bit of his story and why he was singing/speaking at a conference for women bloggers.

(thanks Aimee for this video)

He spoke of a time when his singing career wasn’t able to support his growing family so he took a 9-5 soul killing job. What a wonderful father, so many selfish people of our generation think they deserve to continue to focus on themselves at the expense of their family… ANYWAY, he had put a video on YouTube before the soul sucking job but it hadn’t done very well at all.

alex-boye-snap

One day his wife called him at work and told him to check out his video on YouTube, it had gone from a handful of views to 50,000+ almost overnight? What was going on? He checked out his analytics to find that 5 “mom” bloggers had shared his video and started the snowball effect he was seeing.

From that point on he’s been able to support his family with his music career (a hard business for sure). So he was at SNAP telling us to not give up, that if we thought about quitting to know that we were effecting people more than we could know and to keep it up even when we got negative comments and felt like quitting (and he complimented my hair, awesome).

After his performance was over he kindly stayed after to shake hands and take pictures. Some of the outgoing girls I’m friends with (Jordan and Pam) suggested that he should do a video including us bloggers sometime. Well he took that idea and RAN with it!

Last week we got the email to join him for recording and filming the video (all in one crazy day with awesome choreography from Kaylynn) and this week the video came out. So in honor of moms, who are all amazing and dedicated to kidnapped Girls from Nigeria West Africa, Here is Katy Perry’s “Roar” with Alex Boye and a ton of us Mom Bloggers!

Spicy Deviled Egg Recipe

This is a sponsored post, Kraft Foods sent me jars of MIRACLE WHIP and this recipe to try as part of the #proudofit campaign

I am a MIRACLE WHIP lover!  We never even had mayo in the fridge growing up.  when I got married my husband came from a mayo family, but I quickly converted him and he is now a MIRACLE WHIP lover as well.  And of course we’re raising our kids right as well!

spicy-deviled-egg-recipe

BUT there are a few classic recipes, like Deviled Eggs, I never thought to make the swap to MIRACLE WHIP… But that is changing!  Adding MIRACLE WHIP brings a sweet and tangy flavor!  Perfect for transforming your Easter eggs from something ordinary to extraordinary.  I wasn’t sure what my family would think but my husband LOOOOOOVED it!

I love getting together with family and friends potluck style and bringing food.  To dress up my eggs for Easter I used food dye to dye my eggs all pretty like.  To see a full tutorial for how to dye Easter eggs with food dye head on over at Cupcake Diaries.  I want to stress that this was Food dye, not store bought pellets so it’s safe for everyone to ingest!

#proudofit-spicy-deviled-egg-recipe

This recipe is just 5 ingredients and takes less than 15 mins to prepare!  It’s so easy my kids could make this!  I love fast and easy food, since I’m usually wrangling 5 kids and a husband out the door to these gatherings as well!  AND so pretty, Deviled eggs are a dish people are totally impressed with and i had no idea how easy they were to make!

Gather your ingredients.  Make sure to dice your jalapeno super tiny and WASH YOUR hands after, don’t touch your itchy eye with your hand right after cutting… Ouch (yes I totally did that).  Make sure you use a sharp knife to cut your eggs in half, you don’t want to break or crush your eggs  (I always cook a few extra just in case)

I used an open star tip to pipe the yolk mixture into the egg whites.  Don’t use a CLOSED star tip because the chopped jalapeno’s will get stuck…  Divide it evenly between all your eggs and Voila! Your ready to take your platter or plates to your Easter party!

I also have a post on perfect hard boiled eggs, but I know everyone has their own way of doing it.  What is your favorite way to boil/cook eggs?

AND where you do fall on MIRACLE WHIP spectrum?  I can’t wait to share a few more twists on classics over the next few months!

Easy Easter Lunch for Kids

Hello! It’s Mel again from So Festive! Celebrating is all about simple. Sure, there is still some effort required, but doing small and simple things will life meaningful and memorable.

We threw a Bunny Inspired party and today I’m going to show you what we served for lunch. You don’t have to have a full-blown Easter party to make this for your kids. Whip it up sometime this month before the Easter bunny arrives. It will be a hit!

easter-lunch

Presentation is key for kids! The cuter it is, the more likely they are to eat it. This Easter lunch was not only cute, but healthy. Because everything was presented well, they didn’t even realize that it was good for them.

bunny-lunch

I always like to keep a stash of cupcake papers on hand. Not because I make cupcakes that often, but because they are perfect for compartmentalizing things for kids. You’ll see in our Easter Lunch we included carrots, Annie’s Bunny Crackers, and a PB &J cut into a bunny. The kale is optional, but you can’t tell me that extra bit of green doesn’t make it so much more festive?

easter-bunny-lunch

That’s all there is to it! Let them eat away, just like little bunnies would. Bunny ears are optional. :)
