Last week we talked about the basics of the Bosch Universal mixer, and why it is AMAZING (and why I like it better than kitchen aid) this week we’re talking the bowl- including the whisks, dough hook, and other accessories.
This week I want to focus on the BOWL! First off it’s HUGE! It’s a 6 quart mixing bowl, that holds 20 Cups of flour and makes 6+ loafs of bread at once. ROCKSTAR! Don’t forget it’s dishwasher safe, seriously a great bowl. They also have a stainless steel bowl. I wish I had it for when I work with royal icing. But other than that I’ve never had a need for it.
And the double lid, aka the splash ring and cover. I love this feature, you can put the mixer on 1 and add powder/liquid without having it poof/splash everywhere. Then cover it fully to beat on higher speeds, keep the batter moist, etc… I like that it FULLY covers so I don’t have to wait until it’s all incorporated to beat it on high.
Now the attachments. The machine comes with the dough hook and whisks. You can also get cookie paddles, batter whips and bowl scraper! I love love LOVE my cookie paddles, I use them more than the rest.
Let’s break it down: The dough hook I use this for all thick dough’s, like breads, bagels, donuts and thick cookie dough’s! Yeast based dough’s usually. And you know that trick on Pinterest where you shred the boiled chicken? Yup this hook works great for that (just while they are still warm). It also is strong enough to break up brown sugar chunks! click here for recipes I use my dough hook on
Whisks I use these for batters or things you want to beat, whisk, fold and mix. Cake batters, whipping cream, eggs are all perfect examples. here are recipes I use my whisks on
Cookie Paddles These are great for that in between, in between whisks and beaters. It’s perfect for creaming butter and cream cheese. You want to make sure you have a metal whisk holder to use with the paddles. It’s stronger and handles the thicker dough’s better than the plastic whisk holders.
I use cookie paddles for all my frosting’s too. I don’t want air bubbles when I’m frosting and pipping and the whisks beat in air, while the paddles don’t! I also use the paddles to fold in egg whites and whipped cream into batters, on pulse. click here for recipes I use my cookie paddles for
Batter Whips These are similar to the whisks but with less… whisks… and they work GREAT for pastries! I use them to cut butter, so tart crusts, pie crusts, etc… Any recipe that calls for a pastry cutter? you can use these instead. Just DON’T overdo it, it’s easy to go from pea size pieces to smooth batter, then your crust is ruined. These also work great for when my frostings need MORE than the cookie paddles for smoothness, but don’t want a lot of air beat in. recipes when I use my whips
Bowl Scrapper this attaches on TOP of the whisk holder, and it’s so cool. I wasn’t sure if it would work, or be an annoyance, but it works great. Keeps the center post and sides clean and the batter/dough from creeping up the center and the sides re mixing. No more stopping to scrap all the time.
I have EVERY single one of these and they ALL fit into my bowl so they don’t take up a ton of room. Now since I use mine a few times daily I actually have small cupboard for my bosch accessories, but they CAN all fit if you need them too!

I bought my own bosch universal mixer years ago, and I’m sharing it because I love the machine. Bosch did send me a new machine to try out, with no expectation to write about it. I am not being compensated for this review. but I am an affiliate and if you click over and buy something I do make some money, just FYI

Wow, I totally need one of those! It sure would make baking and lots of other things much easier!
Ashlee
it makes EVERYTHING easier. but certainly knocks baking out of the park! I’d invest in this over pots/pans/knifes, etc…

Wow. Can I just say… wow. So, I’m actually in the market for a new Kitchen Aid.. when Steve suggested to me ‘what about Bosch?’. I thought.. yea? What about Bosch? I knew EXACTLY where to go for ALL the right answers. I remembered that you are like THE expert when it comes to this machine. So I searched your site and found this review (and your others). Long story short – this post was EXACTLY what I needed. In the end. Guess what this girl is getting?? You’ve got it. I’m getting me a Bosch and I couldn’t be more excited!!!! Thank you for the EXCELLENT resource – it was ever so helpful and I will continue to refer to it as I need more info 🙂 You da best!

I love my machine. My mother had one for about 30 years. When she bought her new one , she gave me hers. I have owned it for 20 years and little did I know that there were other attachments. I wrecked my beaters by accident this week and was looking for new ones . I would like to thank-you for your web page on attachments. I did not know there were others I will be ordering the paddle for cookies , because I bake tons of them. Also the bowl scrapper what a great idea.
My friends always say ” oh , I have a kitchen aide, and when they see my machine they are amazed.
The problem I am having is finding a dealer. It looks like the closest one is in Lethbridge Alberta, and I live in Vancouver
Annemarie
I would like to thank-you for your web page that I found by accident.
Ashlee
you are so welcome! I have been known to break a few beaters before. I love love LOVE the cookie paddles and use them most often, and the bowl scrapper is AMAZING! I hope you find a good seller locally to you!

I have ad my Bosch for 18 months and wonder I made it all these years without it. Now at 62 years of ages I am milling my own flour and making bread in my Bosch. Outstanding is the only word that describes it. We no longer by any bread products at the store. In fact I find that store bought is just gluten and starch.
My question today is that the underneath of the mixer gets real black. I did not know how to knock out the bushing gear till last night when I saw it on u tube. Has anyone else down this.
Oh and the Bosch makes the best mashed potatoes. No more mashing be hand. I use a little bit of Canadian steak seasoning (one of my son’s ideas) butter and milk. Scrumptous!!!
Ashlee
homemade bread is SO much better than store bought, but we go through 1 1/2 loafs a day so I can’t keep up! but I agree, I use it for EVERYTHING, mashed potatoes esp! And I LOVE that you can twist and pop out the center post so easily for cleaning (I talk about it in another post)
Jilli
Hi Ashlee
I have a new Bosch Mum….and need best advice for creaming and mixing cakes..as I Find the whisk attachment does not mix all ingredients at bottom if the bowl, having to mix myself by hand further….no good!
Help please.
Thanks

All mixers need to have the sides and bottom scraped, the mixers never touch the side or bottom so it doesn’t damage the bowls or whisks. I love the scrapper attachment, it helps a ton, BUT I still scrap the bottom. not often, just once usually does it, after you add the liquid to the powder (or the powder to the liquid), but I don’t ever need to mix by hand. I hope that does it for you!

Love my Bosch! One question – I find it difficult to remove the cookie beaters from the head. What’s the best way to do it? I’ve tried the metal head (from my first Bosch) and the plastic head from this one. I’m sure there’s a trick. Maybe?
Ashlee
NEVER use the plastic head – it could crack and break, only use the metal head with the cookie paddles or cake paddles. is your metal head the one that came with the cookie paddle or older? I noticed that my 20 year old head didn’t fit the newer paddles as nicely so I got a new metal head, but yes they are tight, but that’s a good thing, right? I just pull hard!

I am 76 yrs old and I just now appreciate my Bosch mixer. Before I could use my hands better. Now I mix double the recipes and don’t lose time. Thanks to the Bosch!!
Ashlee
